Stadskasteel Zaltbommel

About This Work

A Story in Blue In the garden of Zaltbommel’s Stadskasteel, I transformed a plain grey wall into a vivid tableau of the town’s history, rendered in the timeless cobalt blue of Dutch tile art. The mural is a contemporary tribute to the traditional tile panels found in the museum’s cellar, reimagining objects and stories from Zaltbommel’s past as a grid of 36 hand-painted “tiles.” Each square, measuring approximately 62 x 62 cm, serves as a window into a moment or artifact from the museum’s collection. Together, they form a cohesive visual narrative: an accessible and engaging celebration of the town’s heritage, inviting viewers to explore history in a new light. Commissioned by: Museum Stadskasteel Zaltbommel Realization: Summer 2025 Location: Inner courtyard, Stadskasteel, Nonnenstraat 5, Zaltbommel Visiting hours: The garden is freely accessible from 1–5 PM, Tuesday through Sunday
